This Man Knew Donald Trump Would Run for President a Year Ago Because Trump Tried to Sue Him about It
One Canadian man knew Donald Trump was going to run for president long before Americans did.
How did he know this?
Simple. Donald Trump threatened to sue him over a domain name. Here’s the story:
I knew for a fact that Donald Trump was running for president at this time last year.
I became aware of this fact because he was trying to sue me over my ownership of the domain Trump2016.com.
Just a little further below are links to the legal notice he sent me.
It was a moment I both dreaded and anticipated at the same time.
The author then describes how he came to acquire the domain:
In October 2010, I was scouring the interwebs looking for cool or intriguing domains that could be potentially profitable.
Today, I can’t remember exactly what brought me to the opportunity, but something led me to check if the domain Trump2016.com might be available.
So I snapped it up and got ready to wait.
And wait… until the day Donald Trump’s people got in touch with me regarding the domain.
Of course, given that Donald Trump is a businessman, the man expected that Trump might just offer a few hundred bucks to buy the domain… maybe even a thousand or two. Such a price would be “chump change” for a wealthy man like Trump, right?
Well, the author was mistaken. Instead of receiving an offer to buy the domain, he received the threat of a lawsuit.
Trump actually paid an attorney to draft a detailed 2-page “intimidation letter.” But the approach backfired. Because Trump tried to bully this Canadian man, he simply deleted the domain and let it go back to the registry where Trump would have to bid on it at auction to acquire it.
In the end, Trump probably paid a few thousand dollars to acquire Trump2016.com when he could have gotten it in a much cheaper and more efficient manner.
Frankly, Trump’s actions in this case show his true colors. He’s not so much a successful businessman (he’s gone bankrupt multiple times) as a bully who pays attorneys to strongarm other people into giving Trump what he wants.
